How To Appear Natural & Relaxed In Professional Family Photos
What are the Dos & Don'ts
Family photo sessions should be an enjoyable experience, not a stressful one! The best portraits capture genuine moments, emotions, and connections. If you're worried about looking stiff or unnatural in your photos, here are some simple ways to relax and enjoy the session.

First, Let Go of All Expectations
The idea of a “perfect” family portrait may not always match reality—& that’s okay! Instead of stressing over every detail, let go & embrace the experience. Some of the best photos happen in the in-between moments, when you're laughing, playing, & simply being yourselves. Relax, have fun, and trust your photographer to capture the magic!

Secondly, It's OKAY to move!
Staying in one spot & holding a pose for too long can feel awkward & forced. The best portraits often happen in motion during natural, everyday movements you already do! Walking, twirling, playing with your children—these natural movements bring energy and authenticity to your photos. Even professional models shift & move between shots to create more dynamic images. If you take ANY of these suggestions into your next photoshoot this would be the most important one in my opinion. Dad, tickle your kids belly for those genuine smiles. Chances are it will make you naturally smile too! Mom, kiss your baby's cheek & live in the moment of their laughter. But most importantly, let your kids be kids. Try your hardest not to force them to stand completely still or tell them SMILEEE. If it's one thing I know about children it's that they don't always want to listen & even when they do they will create the most forced smile you've ever seen. Let the photographer take charge, (he/she) will know how to get those adorable real smiles out of them.

Third, Breath.
It sounds simple, but it’s easy to forget when the camera is on you. Take deep breaths before & during the session to stay calm & at ease. A relaxed body & face will make all the difference in how natural & joyful you appear in your photos.
By letting go, having fun, and trusting the process, your family photos will be beautifully authentic. Enjoy the moment, & let your photographer capture the love & connection that make your family special!

Lastly, Choose The Right Photographer For Your Family
This is going to be different for everyone as each family has unique needs & individuality. The best way to find the right photographer for you is do research & have conversations with who you might work with first. I know when I first chat with someone, I realize quickly if our personalities will go together well. This is why it's so important to not only love the photos of the photographer you choose but also align with their presence as well. Google & social media sites are your best friend when it comes to finding a good photographer that will fit your needs so I suggest utilizing it to the fullest.

I hope this helps on your special day capturing beautiful memories with your family!
